Nigeria For 2010 World Cup Qualification
The
Nigerian President, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua has expressed optimism
that the Super Eagles would qualify for the 2010 World Cup in
South Africa.
While performing the symbolic unveiling and lifting of the FIFA
World Cup Trophy in Abuja, he said he looked forward to being in
South Africa to support the Super Eagles.
President Yar'Adua thanked FIFA for making football a unifying
force in the world, saying there was hardly any event that
unified the entire people of the world more than the game.
He expressed gratitude to FIFA for choosing Nigeria as one of
the countries where the World Cup Trophy would visit.
Sanitary Inspection
In the mean time, the Ministry of Environment has conducted
sanitary inspection of facilities in the eight states hosting
the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria.
The Sanitation Officer in the ministry, Dr. Akpan Michael, told
newsmen in Abuja that the inspection was conducted to ensure
proper sanitary conditions of all the facilities.
Dr. Michael said the inspection teams visited the hotels where
the guests would lodge, to ensure that they were well equipped
and in good sanitary condition.
He said the ministry was collaborating with officials of states
where the tournament would be held in conducting the inspection
and to ensure they met the expected sanitary standards.
