Rights Group Demand
Increase In Wages
The
Civil Liberties Organisation in Nigeria has called for an upward
review of workers’ salaries before the implementation of the
proposed deregulation of the oil sector.
The Lagos State Chairman of the organisation, Mr Eneruvie
Enakoko said the review would enable workers cope with
government’s removal of petroleum subsidy.
Mr Enakoko said although the organisation was not opposed to
deregulation, some factors had to be considered, and measures
put in place to cushion its effect on the masses.
He urged the Organised Labour to come together and articulate
its position and demands clearly, to enable government fast
track its action on them.
The Nigerian Government recently announced it would embark on
complete deregulation of the oil sector, saying it was convinced
deregulation would make the products available and cheap.
