VP Tasks Experts On Climate
Change Impact
Environment
experts in Nigeria have been asked to work closely with officials of the
Ministry of Environment for technical support and better understanding of the
global concern of climate change.
Vice President Goodluck Jonathan
stated this when some members of the Nigerian Environmental Society paid him a
visit in Abuja.
He advised the environment
experts, as professionals, to strive to be abreast of latest developments on the
impact of climate change, saying that was the only way the society could be well
placed to advise the government on local and international environmental issues.
Dr. Jonathan also commended the
society for its effort in maintaining international best practices in the
profession.
The National President of NES,
Deacon Uche Agbanusi, praised the present government for the success of the
amnesty programme for militants in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, saying it
would usher in a peaceful environment for the attainment of development plans.
He said that the body has been
establishing its chapters across the country to increase environmental awareness
and stewardship among the citizenry.
