Government To Explore
Nuclear Energy Power Option

The
Nigerian government says it is interested in exploring the
nuclear energy potentials as a complementary source to the
existing thermal and hydro electricity generation.
Vice President Goodluck Jonathan said this in Abuja, when he
received a delegation of the International Atomic Energy Agency,
led by its Director General, Dr. Yukiya Amano.
Nuclear Niche
He said while the hydro and thermal energy electricity
generation methods were noted for their peculiar limitations,
nuclear energy was reputed to be one of the most stable sources
of energy, necessitating Nigeria’s desire to adopt it.
The Vice president expressed delight at the offer by the atomic
agency to assist the country in establishing cancer control and
prevention facilities.
The atomic agency’s Director, Dr. Amano expressed the agency’s
resolve to assist Nigeria in human capacity building, stating
that Nigeria is a main player in African co-operation and
development efforts.
