University Teachers Set For Another Round Of
Negotiation
The
National President of The Academic Staff Union of
Universities (ASUU), Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie says
its members are eager to return to the negotiating
table as a way of bringing the two-month old strike
to an end.
ASUU members want
the negotiations with the Federal Government to
resume as soon as possible, for the good of the
students, parents, the university education system
and the country at large.
This call on the re-opening of negotiation by ASUU
is coming on the heels of the pull-out of the
Federal Government from further talks with the
leadership of the teachers about a fortnight ago.
According to the National President of ASUU, the
strike would have been resolved if the Federal
Government’s negotiation team had faithfully
implemented the solution proposed by the
Vice-President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.
According to
Awuzie, the Vice President had directed at the
meeting held on August three, this year that all
contentious issues should be resolved and gave two
weeks for the completion of the negotiation process
following which an agreement would be signed.
