Women Drivers Pick Up Refuse Collection Jobs

Nigerian women have picked up jobs of driving refuse
collection trucks in Lagos, Nigeria’s Commercial
city.
The women professional drivers are to handle the
first batch of skip vehicles in an effort to
maintain a cleaner environment and create gender
equity in the driving profession.
They were introduced to the public during the
commissioning of 40 newly purchased skip vehicles
and 240 litre plastic wheeler bins for Lagos state.
The women drivers were certified by the state Motor
Drivers Institute.
According to the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde
Raji Fashola, the purchase of the additional refuse
disposal vehicles and plastic wheeler bins was
designed to address the challenge of inadequate
waste storage in the state.
