Tourism
Education To Feature In School Curriculum
Tourism
is to be introduced into Nigeria’s educational curriculum.
Nigeria’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation,
Alhaji Jibril Gada, stated this at a Practical Seminar on
Tourism Development, organised by a non governmental
organization, the Global Initiative for the Development of Youth
Tourism.
He said the introduction of tourism into schools curricula would
enable youths to identify tourism potential in their various
localities.
According to him, “youths should know at an early stage how to
harness tourism, be able to speak confidently on various
Nigerian cultures and develop careers in the sector.”
The Director-General of the National Institute for Hospitality
and Tourism, Mr. Munzali Dantata said youth tourism was an
important aspect of tourism as the young could act as agents of
change and as service providers in the development of the
sector.
The seminar with the theme; ’’Re-orientation of Youths on
Tourism and Tourism development,’’ featured the launch of the
Youth Tourism Anthem and presentation of awards to youths as
Youth Tourism Ambassadors.
