1861 - Confederate convention in Montgomery, adopted constitution.

 

 

1917 - British troops occupied Baghdad.

 

 

1918 - Moscow became capital of revolutionary Russia

 

1913 - Frontier between Nigeria and Cameroon is agreed by Britain and Germany.

 

1918 - First confirmed cases of the Spanish Flu were observed at Fort Riley, Kansas.

 

1922 - The South African Industrial Federation, a white miners union, ran riot in the Rand Gold mining district.

 

1953- Following the murder of a British farmer in Kenya, eleven Kikuyu tribesmen were hanged.

 

1984- South African government offered to take part in a peace conference with the South-West African People's Organisation (SWAPO)

 

1986- South African Police fire at three thousand school-children protesting against the arrest of twenty six students.
