Nigerian Universities
To Be Restructured - Yar'Adua
The
Nigerian Government says it is committed to restructuring and
refocusing the nation's universities through provision of
infrastructure.
President Umaru Yar'Adua said this in Ibadan at the Year 2009
Convocation and 61st Foundation Day Anniversary of the
University of Ibadan, Oyo state, south western Nigeria.
President Yar'Adua said his government would continue to meet
the obligations of universities through proper funding as
education was critical to attaining the development objectives
of the Seven-Point Agenda.
He urged university unions to shun violence and to always engage
in constructive dialogue in all their affairs.
The President lamented the poor rating of the nation's premier
university, of not being among the first 20 universities in
Africa and called on the governing council of the university to
develop it through creative initiatives.
The President implored the graduands to be positive, patriotic
and committed to the service of the nation.
