The
Nigerian government has approved over N179 billion for massive
infrastructure development in the Niger Delta region, as part of the post
amnesty implementation programme.
The approval
was part of the decisions of the Federal Executive Council, at its weekly
meeting in Abuja, on Wednesday.
The council
took far reaching decisions on infrastructure development across the country and
approved forty four projects on roads construction, shore protection, sand
filling and reclamation, rural electrification and community development.
The Minister
of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili said massive
development of the oil rich Niger Delta region would be witnessed as the
projects are executed simultaneously with those undertaken by the Niger Delta
Development Commission, NDDC.
The Council
also approved the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas in Ekowe,
Bayelsa State. The N14.8 billion institution is to be funded and executed
