Reward Time For Super
Eagles
Bounty
gifts were showered on the Nigerian Super Eagles and officials
on their qualification for the 2010 World Cup.
The Head Coach, Shuaibu Amodu, went home with the biggest reward
of a KIA jeep and N1million cash. He got an additional
cash award of N400, 000 to acquire a special number plate
for the vehicle.
Amodu’s three assistants, Daniel Amokachi, Fatai Amoo and Alloy
Agu, were rewarded with the sum of N500, 000 each.
The players went home with branded - Luigi wristwatches. The
customised wrist watches were given to the 32 players who took
part in the team’s qualification process.
The gifts were presented at the ‘Appreciation Dinner’
organised for the team in Abuja.
Super Eagles had, on November 14th 2009, qualified for the
Nations Cup after topping Group Two of the Africa Zone in the
final round of the twin qualifying series.
It upstaged rivals Tunisia by winning three and drawing three of
its six matches in the group, to remain unbeaten in 12
qualifying phase matches on the road to Angola 2010 and South
Africa 2010.
Appreciation
Speaking at the presentation, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers
State said the gifts were in appreciation of the players’
performance, commitment and resilience.
’’It is a token of our appreciation and a symbol of our
support. The job is not yet done. The journey has just started.
We believe and know you can do it at January’s African Nations
Cup in Angola and the World Cup finals in South Africa later in
the year.” Amaechi said.
He cautioned that the battle ahead of the team was still
herculean and called for total commitment from all concerned for
the team to excel.
Assurance
Coach Shuaibu said the reward would spur him and his colleagues
to guide the players to successful outings next year. ’’I
believe it is going to spur us to do more, we can do more, and
the onus is now on us to go to Angola and South Africa to make
Nigeria proud. I only want to appeal that you should all have
more confidence in us,’’ Amodu said.
While admitting that the team exhibited technical flaws on its
way to securing qualification, Amodu gave an assurance that he
and his colleagues would work on that in the next few days.
’’There are technical flaws noticeable during our last
matches, but we will try in the next few days in Durban, South
Africa to perfect them to ensure we do the country proud in
Angola and thereafter,’’ he promised.
19 players of the Super Eagles team, ex-internationals such as
Austin Okocha, Dahiru Sadi, Garba Lawal and Segun Odegbami
attended the event.
