Hostilities
In Chad, Sudan Stall Regional Peace – UN
The
UN Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon says the continuation of
tensions between Chad and Sudan has stalled regional peace
efforts.
This situation has also prolonged the humanitarian crisis in
both nations.
Darfur and
eastern Chad are described as the two areas mostly affected by
this onslaught.
Mr. Ban however, called for a reinvigoration of meaningful peace
efforts, to guarantee stability in the region.
Regrets
He said that
agreements between Chad and Sudan reached in Doha in May and in
Dakar, last March, have yet to be realised.
The UN chief noted that long-term peace and stability of the
region depended primarily on resolving the internal conflicts
prevailing in both the Sudan and Chad.
