Spain Boosts Afghan
Troops
Spain
says it plans to send 500 more soldiers to Afghanistan in
response to U.S. President Barack Obama's new strategy in the
region.
A Spanish newspaper, El Pais reported on Thursday that the
Defence Minister, Carme Chacon, is expected to announce the
reinforcement in parliament and specify whether the number
includes 220 soldiers who were deployed in November.
Spain currently has 1,000 troops in Afghanistan.
The troops, to be concentrated in Baghdis province, will support
training teams for the new Afghan army to fight the Taliban.
