Tech Agency To
Establish Software Centres
The
National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has
said it would establish two software development centres this
year.
The Director-General of NITDA, Mr. Cleopas Angaye, said in an
interview in Abuja, that one of the centres would be located in
the northern part of the country and the other in the south.
He however said the specific locations would be determined after
the feasibility study had been conducted.
Capacity building centres
He said that the centres, when established, would provide
training in the areas of web design, software production,
software engineering and software programming.
He said the idea was to ensure proper working of the computer
system and information technology in Nigeria.
The director-General said NITDA would employ software engineers
to train Nigerians in various areas to boost the IT utilisation
industry.
’’We have been discussing the issues of providing more
software personnel, because we believe that this is the only way
Nigeria can contribute meaningfully to this knowledge-based
economy…With these, Nigeria can provide a lot of software
developers for the continent at large in the long run,’’ he
said.
