Appeals to varsity Teachers To End Strike
The
Chairman of Nigeria’s Senate Committee on Media,
Senator Ayogu Eze, has appealed to the Academic
Staff Union of Universities, to exercise restraint
over its nationwide strike.
Senator Ayogu Eze said the aggrieved lecturers
needed to shelve the action in
the interest of the ordinary Nigerians people
He called for a roundtable conference with
representatives from the Academic Union and
Government, with the aim of reaching a compromise in
view of agreements
earlier reached.
The Union had directed its members to embark on an
indefinite strike on Monday .
The National President of the Union, Ukachukwu
Awuzie said the decision to go on strike was taken
at the Union’s National Executive Council meeting in
the Ondo state Capital, Akure southwest Nigeria.
Awuzie said the strike became imperative because of
what he described as
Government’s failure to honour the agreement between
it and the Union Government is negotiating team.
