Senate Appeals to varsity Teachers To End Strike

The Chairman of Nigeria’s Senate Committee on Media, Senator Ayogu Eze, has appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, to exercise restraint over its nationwide strike.

Senator Ayogu Eze said the aggrieved lecturers needed to shelve the action in
the interest of the ordinary Nigerians people

He called for a roundtable conference with representatives from the Academic Union and
Government, with the aim of reaching a compromise in view of agreements
earlier reached.

The Union had directed its members to embark on an indefinite strike on Monday .

The National President of the Union, Ukachukwu Awuzie said the decision to go on strike was taken at the Union’s National Executive Council meeting in the Ondo state Capital, Akure southwest Nigeria.

Awuzie said the strike became imperative because of what he described as
Government’s failure to honour the agreement between it and the Union Government is negotiating team.
