Nigeria Lobby Foreign Envoys On UN Permanent Seat

Nigeria
is making a last minute lobby to Foreign envoys in the country
on the need to again present to their governments, Nigeria’s
request for their endorsement of its candidacy for a none
permanent seat of the UN Security Council.
The
latest appeal is coming ahead of Thursday’s vote at the UN
General Assembly in New York.
Unique opportunity addressing the diplomats in Abuja, Foreign
Affairs Minister, Chief Ojo Maduekwe said Nigeria was counting
on the support of the international Community and Friends of
Nigeria to secure the none permanent seat at the Security
Council.
He
said Nigeria’s presence at the Council, would reinforce the
opportunities for her to contribute more to global peace and
security assurance.
The Ambassadors of Mexico, France, Spain and the British High
Commissioner, in Nigeria re-assured the foreign Minister of
their countries support to Nigeria for the UN Seat.
Nigeria and Egypt are the two African countries vying for the UN
Security Council none permanent seat.
