Governors
Support Downstream Sector Reforms
The
Governors' Forum, a meeting of the 36 state governors in
Nigeria, has declared its support for the planned deregulation
of the downstream sector of the economy.
A communiqué at the end of their meeting in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa
state capital called for mass sensitisation and mobilisation of
the citizenry, as the government forges ahead with the new
policy.
The governors called for evolvement and enforcement of laws
against illegal oil bunkering, resolving to prosecute any one
who engaged in the vice.
They reiterated resolve to collaborate with the National
Economic Summit Group to chart a new course for economic
development.
They expressed support for the amnesty and post-amnesty
programmes of President Umaru Yar’Adua to ex-militants in the
Niger Delta region.
