Botswanan
President Ian Khama has won the country’s general election for
another five year term.
The Chief Justice of Botswana announced the results of last
Friday’s votes, saying the governing Botswana Democratic Party,
BDP, has won the parliamentary elections.
According to official results, BDP won 36 of the 57 seats in
parliament.
The main opposition parties, the Botswana National Front and the
Botswana Congress Party won 4 each, with one going to an
independent.
The BDP has been in power since independence in 1966.
International observers say the turnout for the election was
high, and voting went smoothly.
