Nigeria Re-elected Into Maritime Organisation Council

Nigeria has been re-elected into the International Maritime Organisation, IMO, in category C.

Her re-election comes at the ongoing IMO General Assembly at its corporate headquarters in London.

Nigeria polled one hundred and twenty-one out of one hundred and fifty three votes at the election, keenly contested by twenty-six IMO member states, for twenty seats in category C of the Council.

The Nigerian delegation to the IMO Assembly was led by the Minister of Transport, Ibrahim Isa Bio.

The minister described Nigeria’s re-election as well deserved and a step to greater achievements by the country.

The Council of IMO is made up of forty member countries in three categories.

Each member, irrespective of its category, is entitled to only one vote whenever any decision requires voting.

The next council election is scheduled for about the same period in Year 2011.
