Re-elected Into Maritime Organisation Council
Nigeria
has been re-elected into the International Maritime Organisation,
IMO, in category C.
Her
re-election comes at the ongoing IMO General Assembly at its
corporate headquarters in London.
Nigeria
polled one hundred and twenty-one out of one hundred and fifty
three votes at the election, keenly contested by twenty-six IMO
member states, for twenty seats in category C of the Council.
The
Nigerian delegation to the IMO Assembly was led by the Minister
of Transport, Ibrahim Isa Bio.
The
minister described Nigeria’s re-election as well deserved and a
step to greater achievements by the country.
The
Council of IMO is made up of forty member countries in three
categories.
Each
member, irrespective of its category, is entitled to only one
vote whenever any decision requires voting.
The next
council election is scheduled for about the same period in Year
2011.
