Muslims Begin Ramadan Fast

Muslims have joined their counterpart across the
world to begin one month Ramadan fast.
The Supreme head of Muslims in Nigeria the Sultan of
Sokoto Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad announced on National
television that Muslims in the country should
commence the fasting on Saturday.
This announcement came after consultations with
Islamic scholars across the country.
Ahead of the commencement of the fasting period,
many households have procured essential food items
and fruits. However, investigations revealed that
prices of essential food items have increased
astronomically. Particularly fruits which are used
during the period
Fasting in the month of Ramadan is compulsory and
a unique opportunity for Muslims to increase their
spiritual development, and curry the favour of God.
During the period, from dawn to dusk Muslims feel
the pangs of hunger, supplicate and offer alms to
the poor.
They
are expected to read the Qur’án and listen to its
interpretations from clerics.
