Burkina Faso Holds
Presidential Polls In November
Burkina
Faso has scheduled its presidential election for November 21st
this year.
The authorities in Ouagadougou announced the date on state
television on Thursday.
President Blaise Compaore, who has been in power since a 1987
coup d'etat, was last elected for a five-year term in 2005.
Compaore is a prominent figure in regional politics. He
attempted to broker a deal to end the political deadlock that
has beset Ivory Coast.
Last month, he mediated talks between Guinea's military junta
leader, Moussa Dadis Camara, who is in Ouagadougou convalescing
after a December assassination attempt, and the acting head of
state who took over from Camara.
