Agencies To Fast Track Post Amnesty Implementation

All the ministries, departments and agencies involved in the post-amnesty programme have been asked to fast track its implementation.

Acting President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday at an emergency meeting of the Coordinating Committee on the Niger Delta gave the marching order.

The acting president also directed the Niger Delta Ministry to fast track all infrastructural development in the Niger Delta region.

Spokesman for the Acting President, Mr. Ima Niboro said the directive meant that the concerned agencies and individuals should immediately set to task and tackle challenges holding up their duties so that the process could move ahead flawlessly.

Niboro said the meeting was a reaction to concerns in several quarters that the amnesty process was failing.

He said following the successful disarmament stage of the amnesty, the second phase of demobilisation has reached seventy-five per cent completion.

Niboro said that the government had identified the key challenges of the programme and would overcome them.
