Nigeria Set To Review
National Workplace Policy Against Discrimination.

Nigeria
is to review its national workplace policy with a view to
putting an end to discrimination in the workplace against
persons living with the HIV infection.
Minister of Employment, Labour and Productivity, Ambassador
Ibrahim Kazaure said this in lokoja, Central Nigeria during an
enlightenment campaign for field officers.
There have been reports of discrimination in the workplaces
against HIV positive workers and job seekers in the Nigerian
labour market.
Also, HIV infected workers in the public and private sectors
have over the years, complained about alleged discrimination
from employers.
Proactive
According to the Labour Minister, the new policy will favour
persons suffering from HIV and those seeking employment will get
jobs without discrimination as the national workplace expected
to address issues of protection in employment in line with the
human rights posture of the current government.
In the word of the Minister, “the situation whereby Nigerians
infected with the disease suffer discrimination in the workplace
is intolerable to the federal government and all right thinking
Nigerians”.
HIV patients in Nigeria enjoy free anti-retroviral treatment and
counseling as plans to commence local production of generic
drugs takes off soon. This is expected to increasing access to
free treatment and management of the disease.
