Government Harmonises Privatisation Policies
The
Nigerian government has said it would work closely with the National Assembly to
harmonies the views and positions on the current privatization programme.
Vice President Goodluck Jonathan said the objective was realisable because the
Bureau for Public Enterprises is now well-positioned to nurture a private
sector-driven economy into fruition.
He said that the private sector had been playing pivotal roles in developed
economies, encouraging operators in Nigeria’s private sector to also play such
roles.
The Vice President expressed the hope that the challenges being faced as the
privatisation process is evolving would soon be overcome.
He was speaking in Abuja when he received
members of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Privatization and
Commercialization.
In the same vein, the Enugu state government
in eastern Nigeria has inaugurated a thirteen member Advisory Committee on
Private Sector Development.
At the inauguration, governor Sullivan Chime Enugu described the private sector
as the pivot of the development of any economy.
He said the committee should therefore serve as a bridge between the state
government and the private sector, with a view to reducing the numerous
bureaucratic bottlenecks that often impaired investment.
The governor said that the state had embarked on infrastructural development to
provide an enabling environment for entrepreneurs and turn Enugu around to
become a preferred location for potential investors.
The committee has been challenged to focus attention on key areas that would
assist the state to attract genuine investors and foster jobs creation.
