Police Tackles Sex Trade
In Asia
Police
officials from across Asia have agreed to fight and
curb the high rate of illicit sex trade within the
region.
This resolution was agreed upon at a conference in
Sydney.
Networking
The security organs also resolved to embark on a new
joint cross-border investigation, increased regional
cooperation, shared intelligence and network of
information gathering.
According to statistics victims are often smuggled
to Australia from South East Asia and then forced to
work in the sex industry. They end up owing money
and being held hostage.
There are no official figures, but some estimates
about 1,000 victims are smuggled to Australia every
year.
