Mekong Delta as one of the world's major regions for food
production.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dun.
According to reports from local newspaper Vietnam News, the
objective of the plan is to develop the Mekong Delta into a
historical, cultural and tourism hub by 2020.
Predictions estimate that the region's population will by then
have reached 20 million people, with an urbanisation rate of up
