Iran Picks Women Ministers
Iranian
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has nominated three
women to join his cabinet.
Ahmadinejad said he would put forward MP Fatemeh
Ajorlou, as social welfare minister and Marzieh
Vahid Dastjerdi as health minister, with a third
woman to be named later.
There
are only eight women among Iran's 290 Members of
Parliament, and if appointed it will be the first
time women will hold cabinet appointments since the
1970s.
Ahmadinejad was inaugurated for a second term on
August 5 amidst disputes over the June 12 election
results.
More
than 100 people, including senior politicians, are
on trial accused of attempting to overthrow the
regime following the post-election protests.
