Philippine Government To Retain Ex-First Lady's
Jewellery
The
Philippine government says it will not return
Jewellery worth 310 million US dollars, seized from
former first lady, Imelda Marcos.
The Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez had suggested
that Marcos was still the legal owner of the
Jewellery because the government had not made a
legal claim on it.
But government officials decided that the Jewellery
will not be returned to Marcos pending an anti-graft
court ruling.
During her time as first lady between 1965 and 1986,
Marcos was famed for her extravagant lifestyle at a
time when millions of Filipinos were living in
extreme poverty.
