Senate To Pass Procurement
Bill
The
Nigerian Senate has given an assurance that the harmonised
version of the Procurement Bill would soon be made into law.
Senate President, Mr. David Mark said at a forum to harmonise
views on the bill, that the best procurement practices would be
attained when corruption in public contracting was minimized.
The Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa
said before the Year 2007 Procurement Act, about eighty per cent
of corruption and wastes in the public service were fuelled by
over inflation of contracts.
He said that others included non-delivery of contracted items as
well as bias and undue influence in the bidding process.
Aondoakaa called for proper implementation of the Act, saying it
would help stem corruption, ensure value for money and
substantially improve the quality of governance.
