China Seeks Diplomacy
Over Iran Nuclear Issue
China
has called for more diplomatic efforts in settling Iran’s
nuclear issues.
Foreign Ministry spokesman, Qin Gang says: ’’ We will
continue to work with all parties towards the solution of the
Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic and peaceful means.’’
The U.S. and Western allies have long been accusing Iran of
secretly developing nuclear weapons under the guise of a
civilian programme and are discussing a UN resolution to impose
sanctions.
Iran has denied the accusation and stressed its nuclear
programme is solely for peaceful purposes.
China has maintained there is still room for diplomatic efforts
on the nuclear issue and stood against sanctions.
Qin said China opposed Iran having nuclear weapons, but
recognised that Iran, as a sovereign nation, had the right to
pursue a peaceful nuclear programme.
