Cooperate On Energy Development
Nigerian and German
investors have endorsed series of agreements for the development
of Nigeria’s energy sector.
Nigeria’s President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua said in Abuja, at a
meeting with German officials, that the mutual partnership was
in furtherance of his commitment to implement policies and
programmes towards tackling the challenges in the country’s
power sector.
President Yar’Adua said that Nigeria would welcome collaboration
with German companies in the power and energy sector, for the
provision of infrastructure for power generation, transmission
and distribution in Nigeria.
In his words, “Nigeria is ready to partner with Germany and
Europe for the development of power infrastructure which will
serve as a springboard for the economic transformation of our
country.”
Obligation
The Germans pledged their commitment to establishing a
mutually-beneficial partnership with the Nigerian government for
the development of her power sector.
German Entourage
George Boomgaarden, the State Secretary in the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs led the German team that included Viktor Elbling,
Commissioner for International Energy Policy and Sustainable
Development in the Federal Foreign Office, Dr Wolfgang Manig,
the Director of International Energy Policy in the Federal
Foreign Office and representatives of leading German companies,
Siemens and Ruhr Gas.
