State Assembly
A
twenty-seven-year old Nigerian, Mr Okenfe Lebarty, has joined
the race for a seat in the New York State Assembly, scheduled
for September this year.
Bio
Lebarty, a Political Science graduate of the City University of
New York (CUNY), hails from Edo State, Southern Nigeria.
His platform is the Democratic Party and he is vying for a seat
in Assembly District thirty-one in the New York State.
He was a former Regional Field Organiser and Queens County
Volunteer Coordinator for Obama For America during the U.S.
presidential elections in 2008.
Motivation
Addressing newsmen in New York, Libarty said he was running for
the State Assembly to make sure that there is fair and equal
representation to everyone no matter the age, race, sex or
religion.
With several candidates filing petitions to be on the ballot in
September, Lebarty said he was targeting five thousand
signatures and not the stipulated five hundred to qualify him
for the polls.
