Nigeria Says No More Foreign Coach

The Nigerian Football Association, NFA, has said
that the former coach of the Super Eagles, German
Berti Vogts, who resigned this week, will not be
replaced by another foreign coach.
Chairman of the NFA, Abdullah Sanni Lulu stated this
after an emergency meeting of the football
association in Lagos. He was quoted as saying
that,”the board will meet next week to decide who
will replace Berti Vogts, but I can assure you that
his successor will be a Nigerian.”
Lulu said the NFA has yet to receive any formal
letter from Vogts, who announced his resignation in
Germany, on Wednesday.
Job On Offer
Notable indigenous coaches interested in handling
the senior team - the Super Eagles include Austin
Eguavoen, who led the team to win a bronze medal at
Egypt 2006. He was one of Vogts‘assistants.
Also on the list are: Daniel Amokachi, who was also
in the Egypt 2006 crew; Stephen Keshi, who helped
Togo qualify for the 2006 World Cup but missed the
trip to Germany; and Samson Siasia, the current
coach of the Under-23 national team.
Berti Vogts was forced to quit as coach of the Super
Eagles after leading Nigeria to its worst Nations
Cup performance in 26 years. The country had
consistently made it to at least the semi finals
since 1982, but Vogts‘team fell at the quarterfinal
stage at Ghana 2008.
