Nigeria:Navigational Equipment Certified Worthy
The navigational equipment at the airports
across Nigeria has been given a clean bill of health after
undergoing two weeks of calibration exercise.
The maintenance affected airports apparatus in Lagos, Abuja, Jos,
Calabar, Katsina, Yola, Kano and Owerri, and was carried out by
ASECNA, a Senegal-based calibration firm.
The equipment includes Instrument Landing System, ILS and the
Voice Omni-Directional Radio, VOR, which aids safe landing and
take-off of aircraft.
The firm certified the airports as having met the International
Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) specification.
The General Manager, Public Affairs, Nigeria Airspace Management
Agency, NAMA, Mr. Supo Atobatele, also said that the exercise,
which commenced two weeks ago, was highly successful.
He said that all the navigational aids in the affected airports
met the internationally accepted standards.
Atobatele explained that the Precision Approach Position
Indicator, PAPI, belonging to the Federal Airport Authority of
Nigeria at the Katsina airport was also calibrated.
He said engineers from airports authority had been stationed at
the airports to effect maintenance and replacement of some of
the equipment.
