NigComSat Plans
Electronic Raw Materials Production
The
Nigerian Communications Satellite company, NigComSat, says it is
working toward ensuring that 65 per cent of electronic
raw materials are produced locally.
Mr. Agu Collins, NigComSat Senior Manager, Research and
Development, said in an interview, that the company had already
put in place a micro-electronic laboratory to ensure the
production of vital electronic components.
Manufacture capability
He said the company had begun production of printed circuit
board, which he described as the base of electronic products.
According to him, ’’Our desire is to ensure that at least 65
per cent of electronic raw materials are produced in the
country…Although we cannot produce transistors yet, if given the
mandate as a matter of national interest, we can, because we
have the raw materials.’’
Collins said the company does not only produce the printed
circuit board but, also have the manpower and technology to
design electronic circuit from scratch, starting from
micro-controller to the circuit diagramme.
Become an institute
He speaks on the future plans of the company, expressing the
hope that it will soon be transformed into an institute.
’’We expect the Federal Government to turn the company's
premises to a micro-electronic institute, where other agencies
can tap from our potential,’’ he said.
Collins said the company had the ability to design multi-layer
board, which could be compacted into a single ‘mother board,’ a
major electronic software.
He said an eight-layer mother-board machine had already been
procured, urging government agencies and the private sector to
patronise the company.
