Germany Deploys Its
Media To Boost Nigeria’s Image
Vin Oliji, Calabar
The
German government says it is mobilising its media to support
Nigeria’s efforts at redeeming its image in Europe.
Germany’s Consul General in Nigeria, Mr. Watter Driesh, said in
Calabar, Cross River state, southern Nigeria, during a visit to
the Cross River state Governor Liyel Imoke, that some television
stations have been commissioned for the campaign.
Mr. Watter said that the initiative involves packaging media
programmes about the positive aspects of Nigeria.
The television stations will film the laudable programmes and
projects executed by the Nigerian government and air them in
Germany and the rest of the Europe. The project is aimed at
changing the negative perception of Nigeria as conceived by the
average European.
The media campaign is also meant to support the Nigerian
government’s drive to attract more support and investors.
The German envoy said that the project had taken off in Lagos
state, South-western Nigeria and would soon spread to other
parts of the country.
Mr. Watter added that plans have been concluded to invite
European experts that would assist in promoting the Calabar
Carnival to international standard.
