Nigerians Pay Tribute To
Late Elder Statesman Onoh

Many
Nigerians paid glowing tribute to the late Chief
Christian Onoh, a former governor of Anambra state,
eastern Nigeria, who was laid to rest in Enugu.
Voice of Nigeria correspondent reports that the body
of the former governor was laid in state at the
Government House, Enugu on Thursday.

Dignitaries include the governors of the five South
Eastern States, former governors from the zone,
former senate presidents and former Vice President
Alex Ekwueme, who laid the wreaths at the solemn
ceremony.
In his tribute, Enugu state governor Sullivan Chime,
said Onoh lived and died fighting for the
emancipation of the down trodden.
In his words,’’ Nigeria has lost an outstanding
nationalist, Igboland has been deprived of a
selfless leader and Enugu State in particular has
lost a father and beacon of hope and inspiration.’’
Senator Ken Nnamani, a former Senate President said
that he fought heartedly for the enthronement of
good governance and exposed corruption in official
places.
The first governor of Enugu state, Dr Okwesilieze
Nwodo who spoke on behalf of former governors of the
state advised upcoming leaders to always fight
injustice without fear or favour.
Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuma, Anglican bishop of Enugu,
officiated at the event.
Highlight of the funeral ceremony was the 21- gun
salute by the Nigeria
Police in his honour.
Chief Onoh’s remains were buried on Friday in his
country home at Ngwo, in Enugu north local
government.
