LABOUR
UNIONS IN NIGERIA CALL FOR JUDICIAL ENQUIRY INTO CORRUPT CASES
The
Nigerian Government has been urged to establish a Judicial
Commission of Enquiry to investigate corrupt practices in the
immediate past administration in the country.
This was the submission of the Nigeria Labour Congress, the
Trade Union Congress and other Civil Societies at the
anti-corruption rally held in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
The Labour Unions said the Judicial Commission will ensure that
those involved in fraud in the current probes and public
hearings are brought to book.
They said there had been several probes in the past without
results and held that only Judicial Commission will ensure that
similar fate does not befall the recent ones.
At the office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,
the Head of the Media and Publicity, Mr. Osita Nwaje pledged the
support of the Commission towards bringing to book all leaders
involved in corrupt practices.
At the National Assembly, the Nigeria Labour Congress President,
Abdul Waheed Omar urged the lawmakers to ensure that the probe
yielded results.
Responding, the House Committee Chairman on Labour, Wilson Ake
said the House was committed to preventing the situation that
characterized previous probes in the country.
