Nigeria's Super Eagles are battle ready for the
Cartage of Tunisia in the 2010 World Cup Qualifying
cracker in Abuja on September 6.
Sequel to this, the team got down to business on
Tuesday with 16 out of the 23 invited players having
their first training under the tutelage of Coach
Shuaibu Amodu at the National Stadium Abuja.
Almost all the players invited for the September 6,
clash with the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia were in
camp Wednesday morning.
Those who trained on Tuesday evening include skipper
Nwankwo Kanu, goalkeeper Austin Ejide, defenders
Taye Taiwo, Ayodele Adeleye, Olubayo Adefemi, Yusuf
Mohammed, Apam Onyekachi and Elderson Echiejile.
Others are midfielders Sani Kaita, Mikel Obi, Seyi
Olofinjana and Olufemi Ajilore. The attackers who
trained are Ikechukwu Uche, Michael Eneramo, Chinedu
Obasi and John Utaka.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Minister of Sports, Sani
Ndanusa has called on fans to storm the National
Stadium, Abuja, to cheer the Super Eagles to
victory.
Mr. Ndanusa said this when he received top officials
of the Nigeria football federation in his office in
Abuja.
Nigeria, with five points from three matches, will
on Sunday play against Tunisia that has seven points
in what could be the deciding match of the group.
Tunisia Jets In Friday
The Tunisian contingent to Abuja for Sunday's 2010
FIFA World Cup qualifier is expected to arrive on
Friday.
Spokesman for The Nigerian Football Federation
Ademola Olajire told newsmen in Abuja that the match
officials are expected in from South Africa on
Thursday.
Memory Lane
Both sides played out a 0-0 draw in the reverse
fixture in Rades, Tunisia back in June.
Nigeria and Tunisia have played against each other
16 times since their first clash in 1961.
Seven of those matches were World Cup qualifiers,
with the Tunisians winning three, Nigeria winning
two and two have been drawn.
The Super Eagles currently trail the Carthage Eagles
by two points going into Sunday’s showdown.
Other Pairings
Other teams in the same group with Nigeria and
Tunisia are Mozambique and Kenya who also play this
weekend.
The group winner will qualify for the 2010 World Cup
finals in South Africa while the top three teams
will be at the African Nation’s Cup slated for
Angola next January.
