Okagbare has continued her winning streak this year as she
posted a season best of 6.88 (+1.9) in long jump, at the 83rd
Team Relays Meet in Austin, Texas, USA.
Competing in the colours of the University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP),
Okagbare now tops the world long jump rankings with this feat.
She went on to win the one hundred metres albeit wind-aided,
recording 11.10(+2.3).
Zambian sprinter Gerald Phiri prevailed in the men’s one hundred
metres in 10.17 (+0.6). This places him among the top four on
the world outdoor one hundred metres rankings.
Kenya’s Robert Menjo (14:54.14) and Justice Chirchir (3:56.06)
won the men’s five thousand metres and one thousand five hundred
metres finals respectively.
Risper Kimaiyo prevailed in the women’s five thousand metres
with 16:53.79, while Caroline Jepleting came third in the one
thousand five hundred metres with 4:28.11
Elsewhere in Kenya, Peter Kariuki Wanjiru emerged winner of the
inaugural Safaricom Nakuru Half Marathon in 52:53.59.
Runner up Robert Korir also covered the distance under an hour,
in 54.30, while Kirui Chesang was third in 1:03.78.
Naomi Chepkosgei emerged victorious in the women’s ten kilometer
race in 34:33.04. Alice Timbilil was second in 34:33.05 ahead of
Esther Chemtai, who came third in 34:34.05.
Still in Nakuru, Olympic eight hundred metres, champion, Pamela
Jelimo made a surprise return to the track at the New KCC/Athletics
Kenya Track and Field meet.
Jelimo who has been plagued by a knee injury emerged winner in
2:06.1.
Olympic one thousand five hundred metres champion, Asbel Kiprop,
came fourth.
