Acting
President Goodluck Jonathan has received the interim report of
the Presidential Committee on the Jos crisis with a pledge to
stem the intractable violence in Plateau.
Receiving the report, Acting President, Jonathan expressed
concern over the resurgent crisis in the area going through a
period of aggression and lawlessness, and said that the Federal
Government was determined to bring the crisis to an end.
Jonathan, who thanked the committee members for their hard work
and commitment, expressed hope that the committee’s final report
would be able to provide pragmatic solutions to the Jos crisis.
The Report
Earlier, the committee’s Chairman, Chief Solomon Lar, told the
Acting President that the full report of the committee, which
still requires the input of certain critical segments to
finalize work on the report, would be ready soon.
He commended the Federal Government for its determination to put
an end to the lingering crisis and noted that the crisis was
caused by years of mutual suspicion and mistrust among the
people of the area.
The committee was set up by the Acting President on February1 to
