Islamic Council Calls
For Prosecution Of Perpetrators Of Jos Crisis
The
Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has called
on the government to prosecute perpetrators of the mayhem in
Nahauwa village of Plateau, Northern Nigeria.
NSCIA Secretary General, Dr Lateef Adegbite, said in a statement
that the Council was stunned by the latest violence.
Adegbite said the savage acts, believed to be a reprisal by
those who felt aggrieved at the massacre of over one hundred and
fifty persons during the last fatal disturbances, were wrong, as
vengeance belongs to Allah.
Adegbite expressed regrets that ethnic rivalry in Plateau State
has degenerated into deep ethnic hatred and called for an end to
the dangerous trend.
NSCIA, headed by Alhaji Abubakar Sa'ad III, the Sultan of Sokoto,
is the apex Islamic body in the country.
The Plateau state government was advised by the Council to
review its position and evolve a policy of accommodation that
would give every citizen and resident a sense of belonging.
