Iran Releases British
Embassy Staff
Olly Barratt, London.
Iran
says it has released five of the nine local staff of
the British embassy in Tehran, who were detained
over an alleged role in post-election protests.
The UK has dismissed the allegations as baseless and
has demanded the release of all the staff.
Meanwhile, Iran's top legislative body on Monday
began a partial recount of the poll.
Iran's Guardian Council has offered to recount a
random 10% of the votes from the 12th June election.
The process is expected to be completed later on
Monday and the result would be announced shortly
afterwards.
The recount has been rejected by defeated opposition
candidate, Mr Hossein Mousavi.
Mr Mousavi insists the poll was rigged and therefore
should be annulled.
