World Food Prices On
The Increase – UNWFP
The
UN food agency says food prices and supplies around the world
are likely to remain high.
The head of the UN's World Food Programme, Josette Sheeran, who
gave a projection at the launch of a new report about climate
change and hunger, said that prices of 80 per cent of the
commodities in the developing world that are tracked by the UN
are higher now than a year ago.
Excessive market speculation has been identified as one of the
factors that drove food prices to record highs last year.
Estimates indicate that over one billion people around the world
are suffering from hunger.
Research has suggested that 24 million more children will be
malnourished by the Year 2050.
