IMF Expresses Commitment
To Nigeria’s Oil and Gas
The
International Monetary Fund, IMF, has expressed its commitment
to support Nigeria in its ongoing reforms in the oil and gas
industry.
A financial analyst and
leader of the IMF team to Nigeria, Mr Charles Macpherson said in
Abuja that he was impressed with the level of work Nigeria did
on the bill before the National Assembly.
Mr Macpherson said his team
would study the documents to locate areas it could make
recommendations to strengthen Nigeria’s new but omnibus
legislation to drive its oil and gas industry.
Opening the meeting of IMF officials and various agencies
involved in the reform and its implementation in Abuja,
Petroleum Resources Minister, Rilwanu Lukman said the process
was aimed at repositioning and strengthening the industry.
Lukman said that the multinational oil companies operating in
the country had made useful presentations, especially on the
fiscal regime aspects of the bill, such as taxes, royalties and
cash call obligations, during the various stakeholders’
sensitisation fora.
