Federation Expresses Shock At Endurance Idahor’s Death
The
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed shock and
sadness at the sudden death of former U-23 player Endurance
Idahor.
Idahor slumped and died during a football match between his El
Merreikh side and Al Amal FC in the Sudanese league on Sunday.
A statement in Lagos by NFF spokesman quoted Bolaji Ojo-Oba, the
General Secretary, as saying that the federation was awaiting
the details of Idahor's death.
Idahor's death brings to six the number of Nigerian players who
have died in action within the last 20 years, the first being
Samuel Okwaraji on August 12, 1989.
Okwaraji died during a qualifying game for the 1990 World Cup
against Angola at the National Stadium, Lagos.
Julius Berger lost Amir Angwe during an African Cup Winners Cup
tie against Mozambique's Maxaquine at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos,
in October 1995.
Former Golden Eaglets player John Okwara died earlier during a
training with a club in the Middle East, while former Rangers
goalkeeper Sam Okoye died in Iran.
Ojo-Oba described Idahor's death as a rude shock to members of
the Football Federation.
