National Health Plan
To Commence
The
Federal Ministry of Health says it is ready to commence
implementation of the components of the National Health Plan (NHP).
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, Mr. Linus Awute,
the Permanent Secretary, said that the health programme would
start as soon as the 2010 budget is signed into law.
Mr. Awute explained that the ministry would provide technical
assistance and orientation to its constituent parts to ensure
the success.
He said the ministry has agreed with UNICEF and others to
commence an NHP roll-out project, as part of the nationwide
efforts to roll out implementation of the plan at the state
level.
According to him, ’’ technical assistance will be provided to
states on the preparation of the operational plans in context of
the NHP.’’
International compliance
Awute said that Nigeria was already a signatory to the Global
International Health Plan (IHP), which sought to improve
efficiency in the utilisation of available resources and mutual
accountability with a view to delivering results.
He said that Nigeria being a signatory to the IHP would
checkmate and ensure that the hitherto prevalent multiplicity of
donors, poor coordination and limited transparency would be
eliminated.
