Preparations To Begin

Preparations in Nigeria for
the 2008 Hajj will begin in earnest on Tuesday,.
the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) announced this
on Monday in
Abuja, the nation’s capital.
A statement made available to the Newsmen said that the
Commission would meet, on that day,
with the leadership of state Muslim Pilgrims' Welfare Boards
over the exercise.
The statement, signed by Dr. Saleh Okenwa, NAHCON's Commissioner
on Planning and Information, said the meeting was expected to be
declared open by Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, Secretary to the
Government of the Federation.
In the meantime, said the statement, the state welfare boards
were expected to start the collection of Hajj fares for
intending pilgrims using the 2007 rate.
The collection will continue pending the outcome of NAHCON's
meeting with Saudi Arabia officials and service providers.
