Guinea Appoints Prime
Minister
Veteran
opposition politician in Guinea, Jean-Marie Dore, has been
appointed as prime minister by the ruling military junta.
Dore, Head of the Union for the Progress of Guinea, will head a
transitional government with the task of leading the country
towards democratic elections.
Like Moussa Dadis Camara who took power in a coup in December
2008, Dore is from one of the minority ethnic groups of Guinea's
Forestiere region.
The appointment was made after discussions between Camara and
Sekouba Konate, the junta's second in command who assumed
control when Camara was injured in an assassination attempt last
month.
Konate is on his way back from Burkina Faso where he signed a
deal on Friday with Guinea's military ruler, Captain Moussa
Dadis Camara.
Under the deal, a unity government will be created and elections
will be held within six months.
Camara is still recovering from an assassination attempt and
agreed to take ‘a period of convalescence’.
