Group Suggests Panacea For Better

at a colloquium to mark the 58th birthday of the former Lagos
State Governor, Bola Tinubu, have called on stakeholders to do
more for the rule of law.
The colloquium was established by friends of Tinubu as part of
his birthday celebration held in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
The Rule of Law
Lead Speaker, Hernando De Soto, the President of the Institute
for Liberty and Democracy, Peru, said Nigeria needed total
application of rule of law to succeed.
De Soto argued that any economy not ruled by law cannot succeed,
noting that it is the rule of law that is essentially behind the
success of the developed nations.
According to him, every formal economy not ruled by law cannot
beget the wealth needed to sustain its citizens.
Also speaking, the President of the West African Bar Association
(WABA), Mr Femi Falana, said that to rebuild Nigeria, the rule
of law should be institutionalized , stressing: ``It must be
done alongside the electoral reforms.''
Falana called for a new, international and economic code that
would allow African countries to dictate the prices of their
goods.
Tinubu said that Nigeria must go back to the basics by
strengthening constitutionalism, justice, equity and fair play.
He called for the urgent implementation of the recommendations
of Muhammad Uwais panel on electoral reform, stressing that the
rule of law cannot be implemented when the people are not
involve in the act of governance.
